TV vs. Interior Design

We currently live in an environment where most of our information comes from Internet, TV, and technology. As you may know technology gets newer and newer as the years go by. A lot of us prefer to take the easy way out of things and live life like a microwave, wanting things in a matter of minutes. Internet, TV, and new technology has a lot to do with this. Obviously as an interior design student my interest is in design. But what is our technology viewing interior designers as? What are people viewing these shows really think interior design is? As I sit to watch TV, I see a room furnished and adorned, a new house in a weekend, and a do it yourself being called Interior Design.

Many people use the term "interior design" and "interior decorator" interchangeably, but these professions differ in critical ways. Interior Design is understanding peoples behavior to create functional spaces within a building. They apply creative and technical solutions within a structure that are functional, attractive, and beneficial to the occupants quality of life. And like I've said in previews post it takes time and a lot of process to complete this.

These people on TV are calling themselves Interior Designers, when in reality what there doing is decorating, furnishing and adorning a space with fashionable or beautiful things. Now I don't have nothing against decorators, but please know your place and title. Don't call yourself an Interior Designer when your true title is interior decorator. The process of interior design is obvious that cant be done in a matter of hours, it takes time and process to develop what a interior designer really does.
